You are warmly invited to experience 5 days of Mindfulness Practice with Sister Annabel Laity, at Sheldon Centre, Dunsford, from 7:30 pm, Sunday 26th October to 10:00 am, Friday 31st October. We would request friends to arrive as close to 7:30 pm as possible. The Centre is not available to us before 7:00 pm. The retreat will be led by Sister Annabel, assisted by members of the Order of Interbeing Core Community. Sister Annabel Laity (Dharma name: Chan Duc – True Virtue) is a much-loved senior Dharma teacher of the Order of Interbeing. A disciple of Thich Nhat Hanh since 1986, she became a Dharma Teacher in 1990 and was Director of Practice at Plum Village. Since 1997, she has been Director of the Maple Forest Monastery, USA, and was installed as Abbess at the Green Mountain Dharma Centre in 1998. She has travelled widely, leading meditation retreats and speaking in many different countries of the world. Sheldon, a converted farmstead run by a small resident lay Christian community, sits on the edge of Dartmoor with room for up to 50 people. Travel directions will be sent on registration. Staying at SheldonSleeping arrangements are simple, in mostly shared rooms, sleeping 2 or 3 people with some mattresses on the floor. Couples will be allocated separate rooms. There are two chalets (formerly pigsties) available close to the main buildings with rooms sleeping 4 people, some on mattresses. These would be ideal for sangha friends or small groups who enjoy close living! There is also space for campers with use of washing facilities and toilets in the close by main buildings. A limited number of day retreatants are welcome who are asked to take part in the complete days practice, and the sharing of all meals.
Costs for 5 Nights The costs have been kept as low as possible. In-house accommodation: A single room with bed £160 A shared room with bed £140 or with mattress on floor £110 Campers £90 Day retreatants £85 Daily PracticeThis will probably take the form of, early morning meditation; breakfast; Dharma talk; working meditation: walking meditation, and a mindful lunch. In the afternoon activities such as group discussion, tea meditation or touching the earth and guided relaxation; evening meal; Dharma discussion; evening meditation; bedtime. Meals are taken in silence, and Noble Silence will be observed from evening meditation until after breakfast. Your willingness to bring talents and enthusiasm to share, music, poetry, yoga, or other activities will be welcome. Cooking teams, required throughout the five days practice, will be assembled before the retreat. Please use the space on the application form to specify any contribution you would like to make. RegistrationAll places need to be booked in advance. Early booking is appreciated. Please complete the form and return it with a non-refundable deposit of £75 and a stamped addressed envelope. Applications will be dealt with as received. Further InformationSheldon is home to a flock of rare sheep, and some much loved chickens, pets must therefore be left at home. Please bring personal linen. The Centre provides one pillow and two blankets. Unfortunately we are limited in our capacity to accommodate people who have special dietary or medical needs.
